The Pharma Forum 2023 took place for the eighth time. Around 250 guests from 25 countries accepted Optima's invitation to Schwäbisch Hall. The main topics of the conference in 2023 could not have been more relevant: It was about the potential of cell and gene therapy, the optimization of systems and production processes as well as the discussion of current industry trends. Experts from research and industry provided insights into solutions for reducing glove interventions or the development and use of cell and gene therapies. Flexible production solutions, the influence of regulatory requirements such as Annex 1 and virtual qualification solutions were discussed.
The Pharma Forum has been held every three years since 2001 and has been a great success.
Since 2010, more than 50 international speakers such as Ryan Hawkins from Cook Pharmica and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Friess from Coriolis have given exciting presentations at the Pharma Forum. The topics ranged from trends in lyophilized formulation of biologics, to how the growth of Asia's ageing population is driving automation and advanced therapies.
The contribution by Dr. Annette Künkele, senior physician at the Charité hospital in Berlin, who reported on a child suffering from leukemia in which the tumor cells have now disappeared for seven years thanks to a new type of therapy (CAR T-cell therapy), was particularly moving for the participants in 2019.
The patient of tomorrow does not just want a medicine, but an individual solution including diagnostics. Another trend is moving towards digitalization and the individualization of certain treatments.
The ageing of Asia's population is driving automation and advanced therapies. Biological medicines and the introduction of innovative therapies play a crucial role in meeting the changing needs of the population.
